Matcha Gift Set

The ceremonial matcha routine emphasizes mindfulness, respect for tradition, and the enjoyment of the tea's flavor and aroma. It's often practiced in tea ceremonies like the Japanese tea ceremony (chanoyu) as a way to appreciate the artistry and simplicity of matcha preparation.

Description:

  1. Preparation:

    • Gather the necessary tools: a chawan (tea bowl), chasen (bamboo whisk), chashaku (matcha scoop), and a chakin (tea cloth).
    • Warm the chawan by rinsing it with hot water, then drying it with the chakin.
  2. Measuring Matcha:

    • Use the chashaku to scoop about 1 to 2 teaspoons of matcha powder into the chawan. The amount can vary depending on personal preference and the intensity of flavor desired.
  3. Adding Hot Water:

    • Heat water to around 175°F (80°C) and pour a small amount (about 2 ounces or 60 ml) into the chawan over the matcha powder.
  4. Whisking:

    • Use the chasen to whisk the matcha and water vigorously in a zigzag motion until it becomes frothy and well mixed. This process should create a smooth, uniform consistency without lumps.
  5. Enjoying:

    • Sip the matcha directly from the chawan in three to four quick sips. Appreciate the flavor and the aroma of the matcha.
  6. Cleaning:

    • After finishing the matcha, rinse the chasen and chawan with warm water to remove any remaining matcha. Gently pat dry with a chakin and store properly.
